4 Christmas Crafts for Caravanners

Updated: Feb 6

Spending Christmas in your caravan this year? Personally, I love doing Christmas Craft with our extended family - everyone usually gets involved and its a great way to decorate your caravan for Christmas while getting into the festive spirit!

Here are some Christmas craft ideas that can be enjoyed by all ages using simple items that you can take with you or gather from nature.

IMPORTANT: When gathering items from nature, please note we do not condone any impact to the environment. We do not condone collecting shells from beaches, as this can disturb ecosystems. In this craft, the only items we collect from nature are those on the ground that are not part of the ecosystem and are not used by animals. After use, we recommend returning items to the environment as long as they are not contaminated by glue etc.

We recommend taking a craft box containing the following items:

  • Craft glue

  • Twine or string

  • Scissors

  • Small Christmas baubles

  • Flat timber shapes (e.g. stars)

  • Coloured paper

  • Craft pom poms in Christmas colours

  • Plastic animal eyes

  • Toilet paper and paper towel rolls

  • Pieces of ribbon in Christmas colours

  • Various size/colour beads

Stick Raindeer

  1. Go for a walk and (from the ground only) gather the following per raindeer

    1. 4 sticks of the same length and width

    2. 1 short stick

    3. 2 sticks with forks

  2. Back at the caravan, use either a paper towel or toilet paper roll for the raindeer body and push the 4 sticks of the same length and width into the paper roll (2 at each end). Ensure your incomplete raindeer can stand on the 4 sticks.

  3. Push the 1 short stick into another toilet paper roll for the raindeer head (about 2/3 of the way along works best), then push the other end of the stick into the raineer body (again about 2/3 along is best for stability).

  4. Push the 2 sticks with forks into the top of the raineer head for antlers.

  5. Either draw or glue 2 eyes and a red nose on the raindeer head.

When finished enjoying your Stick Raindeer, please return sticks to the place you found them.

Hanging Christmas Tree

  1. Go for a walk and (from the ground only) gather sticks of different lengths. We recommend around 8 sticks per tree, but you could make it bigger or smaller.

  2. Back at the caravan, lay out your sticks on a flat surface with the shortest at the top, graduating to the longest at the bottom and spaced evenly.

  3. Use twine/string to tie the sticks together at the outer edges (and possible the middle for stability). Try to keep sticks spaced as evenly as possible.

  4. Add some twine/string to the middle of the shortest top string that can be used to hang up your Christmas tree.

  5. Decorate as desired, here are some ideas:

    1. Hang small Christmas baubles

    2. Glue craft pom poms and timber shapes

    3. Cut decorations out of coloured paper and glue on

  6. Hang tree inside or under awning.

Paper Angel

  1. Take one sheet of paper cut into a 30cm x 10cm rectangle and fold in half. From the closed short end, fold accordion style into 1cm pleats. Fold over pleated paper 3cm from one end, open out and apply glue, then press back down to stick together.

  2. Repeat step 1 with a second 30cm x 10cm paper rectangle.

  3. Cut a 25cm length of twine/string, fold in half and knot it at 8cm, leaving a 4cm tail. Sandwich the tail between the Angel wings and glue into place. Wait for glue to dry.

  4. Thread a bead onto the twine/string loop for the Angel head and, if desired, knot above to hold in place.

  5. (Optional) Tie some twine-string under the Angel wings.

Small sticks can be used to make a variety of ornament shapes using either twine/string or craft glue and decorated as desired. Here are some suggestions, please be creative and share your Christmas Ornament photos with us!
