While the most direct route between Melboure and Sydney is the Hume Highway, it isn't particularly beautiful or interesting... Whereas the coastal route is a scenic and memorable journey, rich in natural beauty, wildlife, and charming coastal towns.
We begin our journe in Melbourne and travel to popular Victorian tourist destinations Phillip Island, Wilsons Promontory, and the Gippsland Lakes, then head north stopping at several popular seaside towns as we traverse the NSW South Coast. A number of times in this almost 50-page itinerary you are given the option to take a direct route to your next destination or a more scenic and adventurous route.
This itinerary is an excellent first trip for the caravanning novice. The driving directions,
accommodation options, timeframes, and things to see and do listed in this itinerary are all our
recommendations based over 30-years of caravanning experience – but it is ultimately your choice to decide what you do during your travels! Even though we have recommended the number of days to stay in each place, you may decide to travel faster, or stay longer.
If you don't have a caravan, motorhome or similar - this itinerary could still be used as most of the Accommodation Options provided also have holiday cabins.
