The Great Western Highway from Sydney across the Blue Mountains is one of Australia's most historic roads across which flowed a stream of settlers to the vast areas of the slopes and plains of the Central West. Soldiers, convicts and gold diggers have all trudge and driven across the harsh and rocky ridge of the Great Dividing Range barrier.
Once over the range and into open plains and farmland, you will discover a unique region filled with gastronomic delights, magnificent landscapes and a rich cultural heritage. Smack bang in the middle of NSW, this region is renowned for its food, wine, and excellent agricultural products. The towns of the region tell stories of early colonial times and the landscapes incorporate mountains, valleys and even a canyon in amongst rich farmland.
This itinerary is an excellent first trip out of Sydney for the caravanning novice. It also makes an ideal section as part of a longer holiday. The driving directions, accommodation options, and things to see and do provided in this itinery are all our recommendations based on over 30-years of caravanning experience - but it is ultimately your choice to decide what you do during your travels! Even though we have recommended the number of days to stay in each place, you may decide to travel faster... or stay longer.
If you don't have a caravan, motorhome, or similar - this itinerary could still be used as most of the accommodation options provided also have holiday cabins!
